Lots of Fun and BIG Chances to Win Still to Come in 2015
Here in Rhode Island, it’s finally gotten hot after a so–so summer in which many days felt more like September than June or July. It’s been a wild month for me and my team, beginning with Reader Weekend at the end of June with 200 readers descending upon my hometown of Newport, RI, followed by a quick trip to Nashville in which I was honored to be able to share my author story with my former colleagues at the Association of Government Accountants (AGA), where I worked as the communications director for 16 years, leaving at the end of 2011 to write full time. It was at this job that I met Julie Cupp, who is now my full-time assistant, major domo and chief operating officer of my company. It felt like going home for Julie and me to be back with our friends at AGA again, and they seemed to love hearing my long and winding author story that began with hundreds of rejections and ended with 16 times on the New York Times list (so far). We’re working on getting the video from that talk loaded to my YouTube channel, and will let you know when its live. I was home for one short day before my family and I took a quick overnight trip to New York City on Saturday, July 18, to celebrate our daughter Emily’s 20th birthday.
We came home on Sunday and then I was back to New York again the following Wednesday for the Romance Writers of Americas annual conference with Julie, Holly, Lisa and Isabel from my team in tow. We had a fantastic time in New York, especially our “Sex in the City” girls night out that began with dinner at Sardi’s, a Broadway institution, and then Mama Mia, which is closing in September. Emily really wanted to see it before it closed, so I’m glad we got to do that. We ended the night on the 48th floor of the Marriott Marquis with cosmos, martinis and lots and lots of laughs. My agent, Kevan, joined us and said she could hear us laughing from the elevator. You have to love being surrounded by some of your favorite women (including my daughter Emily, who lives in NYC, and Isabel, who is my niece) for a night of fun in the city.
The next night I attended the Harlequin Black and White Ball at the Waldorf Astoria, wearing Emily’s senior prom gown, LOL! I completely ran out of time to go shopping so I went to the room next door and absconded with the lovely Ralph Lauren stunner we’d bought her on sale at Bloomingdales before her senior prom. My mom, the ultimate Frugal Fannie, would’ve loved that I repurposed the dress. I loved that it freaking fit me! HAHA! I came home with some really BIG BIG BIG news about the Fatal Series that I will be able to officially share with you next Thursday. Watch for a big celebration here next week! Did I mention it’s BIG news?
So now I’m home again until we go to Block Island for our annual vacation later this month. That’s something we look forward to all year and I cant wait to get back to my island. Readers will return to Gansett Island on Aug. 18with Love After Dark. I’m so excited to get this book out to readers! My beta readers have told me they laughed so hard they cried at a couple of places and they cried for real in other places. I think you’ll like it, people. After that, we’ve got Fatal Frenzy out on Sept. 15, You’ll Be Mine, Will and Cam’s wedding novella, out on Oct. 20, It’s Only Love, Ella and Gavin’s story, out on Nov. 3, and a very special surprise coming before the end of the year that involves a favorite couple on Gansett Island. Find out more about the special Gansett surprise EXCLUSIVELY in the back of Love After Dark.
